Goose Creek Review: Peanut Butter Sugar

Picture

My Review for:   Goose Creek- Peanut Butter Sugar   (2019)
Goose Creek Description: "Enjoy the authentic aroma of a tasty vanilla-dipped waffle cone filled to the brim with rich peanut butter ice cream with the premium Peanut Butter Sugar candle."

Fragrance Notes:
Top:   Fluffy Marshmallow, Peanut Butter Blend
Mid:   Vanilla Bean, Warm Butter
Base: Vanilla Dipped Waffle Cone
Quite Authentic...

I hadn't read what the notes were to this candle until AFTER I wrote my review. I don't want to spoil anything, but my search for the perfect Peanut Butter candle continues. That doesn't mean I'm not going to burn this candle. I've found a lot names (and notes) don't fit the fragrance. Though it lacks Peanut Butter, the scent is delightfully sweet & surprisingly versatile.

Cold Sniff: It's sweet & almost smokey. As mentioned before, I don't get any peanut, just a buttery, marshmallow-like scent. I expected sugar & this did not disappoint. The smoky marshmallow blends in well. This is what I imagined Bath & Body Works Marshmallow Fireside would smell like, but MF is warmer, with almost a soft perfume note, while PS is buttery and sweet. It's richer than Bedtime Stories because of the warm butter note. I don't have much else to compare it to besides Butter Cookie, and I've been saving that one. I haven't burned it yet.

Upon burning, the smokey note turns into a toasted one. Beside the buttered, sugary maarshmallow sweetness, there is an extra that keeps this scent from getting sickeningly sweet. I pick up almost a waffle cone & vanilla warmness that only comes out upon burning. The throw fills my living room, and drifts into the hallway. Peanut Butter Sugar has depth & a lot of possibilities. I plan to keep burning it on it's own, as well as mixing it w/ my B&BW Hot Fudge Sundae candle. I think I'll get a Peanut Butter & Chocolate Wafflecone, and I'm SO ready for that!

-Fragrance:  9/10   (misleading name. loses a point)
-Throw:        8/10   (perfect for my mid sized living room!)
-Overall:       B+

I'd buy it again.

Until Next Time, my Illuminating Subjects!

BATH AND BODY WORKS REVIEW: BE ENCHANTED

Picture
Bath & Body Works Review: Be Enchanted

Triple Moisture Body Cream Review
Be Enchanted is berries for sure...
Fragrance Notes: Frosted Florals, Sparkling Sugared Pomegranate

On cold sniff, I get berries for sure, but I can't make out what berries/fruit I am smelling. It smells very pretty, looks pretty and softens my hands & elbows. I bought a few B&BW body creams and this was one of my favorites. It's a keeper! This is a nice blend, if a little sweet. There is a citrus-tinged floral here that keeps this from just being sweet & fruity. Something warm and feminine but unfortunately B&BW were extremely vague on the actual fragrance notes. What is the "sparkling sugared" part of the pomegranate? What kind of flowers are the "frosted petals?" I can only guess. I would like to know more so I can find more scents like this in the future. Especially since this is listed online as a "retired fragrance", so it could go away at any minute. That would be a shame because I like this. I don't have a lot of fragrances that run this sweet & don't give me a headache. Brittany Spears' Fantasy comes to mind. This is that without the cotton candy/gourmand vanilla notes.
If you like sweet berries w/ a lighter, citrus-leaning mystery floral, you will like this. A++

Fine Fragrance Mist Review:
It just doesn't last..
Fragrance Notes
Top:  citrus, iced pomegranate, chilled wildberries, crystallized passionfruit
Mid:  sheer honeysuckle, frosted floral bouquet, sugared violet, dewfruit, asian pear
Base:  whipped vanilla, creamy musk, sandalwood

(The fragrance notes listed are from the 2011 Perfume Notes via Fragantica.)

I was quite the fan when I reviewed the body cream in 2019. I wish I could say the same for the FFM, but the lasting power is abysmal. It doesn't make it past the 1 hour mark on me. The spray doesn't last, nor does it project well. I'm not nose-blind to it either. No one has ever complimented me on this scent, which is usually the sign of a fragrance that doesn't work on me. Why wear something that only lasts an hour? I'm glad I got this spray on sale. Paying full price, for something that lasts less time than a Calgon Body Spray, would have been disappointing to say the least. Now that I got that out of the way, let's get to sniffing.

Cold Sniff:  Very pretty & feminine, conjuring up pastel colored visions of Princesses in Fairytale Lands. It reminds me of Sunset Glow, but set in springtime, as opposed to late summer. BE is softer on the sweet & heavier on the floral, though the fragrance itself is lighter than SG. This is probably why Sunset Glow has staying power on me and Be Enchanted does not. Both SG and BE share the same whipped vanilla base note. Thankfully, it is missing the plastic-tones found in BBW Whipped Vanilla Chiffon. Beyond the sugary floral notes, hiding in the background to temper the sweetness, is a fresh bite of citrus. It gives off a Clementine Orange vibe, not quite as sweet as a tangerine. The pear IS there, but only just, and i think it'll pair (sic) nicely with the whipped vanilla and musk base notes.

On Me (no cream):
On my bare arm, the citrus & fruit notes bloom, not the floral.  Sadly, it doesn't stay that way. If BE kept smelling like the initial spray, I'd buy the perfume off Ebay. After 10 Mins on my arm, the citrus is gone and the floral notes have taken over. One good thing about this spray is it's honest with you to begin with. The initial cold sniff is accurate, at least, it is on me.  After half hour and no outdoor exposure, I had my SO sniff my arm. His exact words. "it's pretty faint". I agree.

On Me (with cream):
I think I'm reaching the end of my body cream's shelf life. The lotion on it's own carries a little musty/musky-ness that wasn't there in 2019. I can't rate the scent, but I can gauge how long the FFM lasts with the body cream layered under it. The body cream doesn't make too much of a difference as far as that's concerned. Layered or not, the lasting power of this fragrance is short-lived,

Conclusion:
It's sugared florals and whipped vanilla, with citrus floating off into the abyss 10 minutes after application. That's too bad because it's the citrus notes in this fragrance I love the most. Once a Clinique Happy Girl, always a Clinique Happy Girl, amirite? The Body cream has more of the berries and the fruit.
If you are younger than 25, start with the body cream. Sniff the FFM first to make sure it isn't too floral for you, because that is what carries the mid notes best. It's is a light enough spray you could mix with similar noted perfumes.  I'm thinking of mixing it with my VS (Pink) Golden Honey body spray because that particular scent pairs beautifully with Sunset Glow.

Fragrance    B+  (nice but a little basic)
Spray           D+  (lasting power is non-existent and body cream barely helps)

yANKEE CANDLE RED APPLE WREATH REVIEW.

Picture

Yankee Candle: RED APPLE WREATH
My Review for:   Yankee Candle- RED APPLE WREATH

Size:  22 oz. Double Wick Tumbler

Yankee Candle Description: A happy holiday homecoming with the festive aroma of sweet apples, cinnamon, walnuts and maple.

                                                      Fragrance Notes:
Top: Golden Apples, Cinnamon Leaf, Clove
Mid: Apple Peel, Cracked Walnuts, Brown Sugar
Base: Amber, Melted Butter, Maple Syrup, Vanilla

My Boyfriend Loves this scent!
I used to visit Yankee Candle all the time, when I lived closer to their shop in Downtown Burlington. I saw a really good deal (5/55$) on large candles, so I took them up on it. Out of the 5 candles I bought, this is the one my boyfriend liked the most. I had planned on giving one or two away as Christmas gifts. This was one my boyfriend INSISTED we keep. I have to admit, I am NOT the biggest fan of Apple-Cinnamon scents. I find them to be a bit overplayed and boring. Red Apple Wreath is primarily an Apple Cinnamon fragrance, but it isn't generic. People talk about the "warmth" element they feel when they burn this candle. There is a vanilla & nutmeg under-layer to the dominant apple-cinnamon notes that takes this away from being a Glade-plug in scent. It is definitely a warm & cozy apple. Not crisp and fresh. It's the type of spiced apple, warm from the oven, ready to be made into a pastry. The throw is excellent, as it fills the largest room in my house with it's soft sweet smell. It's the type of smell that permeates but doesn't dominate. It's always present but not nauseating nor headache inducing like a lot of "food-like" scents can be. It's definitely a late fall-mid winter fragrance, perfect for the holidays. If you like apple-cinnamon scents but you want something just a little deeper, look no further. I am kicking myself for giving half of this candle to my friend, but he really loved the scent too. I figured I would get another one in the future, or find something similar out there. There isn't. At least, not yet. I hope my friend appreciates just how special this candle truly IS. For those of you that like to play around with different scent combinations, I have burned, Luscious Pumpkin Trifle along with Red Apple Wreath. Luscious Pumpkin Trifle helped tone down the apple cinnamon, enhancing the notes of walnut, maple & vanilla. They work wonderfully together, If you want to try something different, (and you happen to have Luscious Pumpkin Trifle on hand!), you might want to try it.

Conclusion: IF You find this candle, You BUY it. Thank me later.

Yankee candle review:  magical frosted forest

Picture

My Review for:   Yankee Candle - MAGICAL FROSTED FOREST
Size:  22 oz. Double Wick Tumble

Yankee Candle Description: An enchanted place where icy breezes playfully dance through tall, snow-coated pines.

                                           Official Fragrance Notes:
Top: Icy Eucalyptus, Frozen Strawberry Leaf, Raspberry Ice
Mid: Pine Needles, Balsam Fir, Crushed Pineapple
Base: White Cedar, Tonka Bean, Golden Amber

Sledding at Pat Root's House...

  • When I was a kid, I grew up in the country. Fletcher, Vermont to be specific. I have some of my most vivid memories, attached to scent, growing up there. My childhood wasn't perfect, but until I was 10, it was pretty damn good. My parent's, my older brother, and I grew up in a 3 story converted farmhouse with more acres of woods than I can even fathom owning now. In the winter, our backyard was an Evergreen lover's paradise. We had towering and majestic, 100+ year old trees all over our property. My winters' smelled like fresh snow, pine cones, pine needles, and wood stoves. To this day, whenever I smell someone's wood stove, I breathe it in as deeply as I can. Mmmmm....childhood.

  • Mike and I have only had one real tree in nearly seven years together. My old apartment had an open floor plan and high ceilings, perfect spacing for a Christmas Tree. I'll never forget how Mike decorated our beautiful tree with Jason Varitek baseball cards. Jason Varitek was the captain of the Red Sox, and I always lusted after him. Maybe it was the beard.... ANYWAY, obviously I have amazing memories tied to the smell of REAL Christmas Trees. Sadly, our current apartment just doesn't have room to house one. I read nearly all the reviews for "Christmas tree" scented candles on Yankee Candle's website. They all sounded similar, with just a few notes different. Many reviewers said the same thing: "this smells like REAL Christmas tree!". It's hard to choose ONE scent out of the many, many offered. I finally settled on Magical Frosted Forrest because the name reminded me of the winter woods, out in the country. Could it really smell like Fletcher?

  • On cold sniff, I smelled almost a minty top note, along with a fairly authentic pine/pine cone middle. Then the fragrance is easily overwhelmed with Eucalyptus, tickling your nose and getting caught in your throat like Vick's Vapor-Rub. Finally, there was just a hint of a clean, soapy fragrance, almost undetectable, but definitely there.

  • My immediate concern was whether this candle smelled like trees in a forest . I can confirm that this candle smells just like that. Less a "Christmas Tree" scent and more of a "surrounded by pine trees, walking in the forest, LOOKING for the perfect tree" experience. I hope that makes some kind of sense to you but I know not everyone grew up in New England. When the candle is burning, you smell much less of the Eucalyptus, and MORE of the softer pine/woods/snowy notes. If you are looking for something that smells like the tree itself, I would recommend checking out one of their other MANY scents, listed on the website. HOWEVER, if you want to smell what it feels like to slide down a hill with the other neighborhood kids in the country at Pat Root's house, with fresh snow and Pine Trees all around you, stock up on this candle! This is a seasonal scent, so supply is limited now, but I will DEFINITELY be repurchasing next fall/winter. The throw is very good, filling my living room, but not overwhelming. This particular scent is perfect for gift giving too, as I can't imagine many people would dislike the scent of a Magical Frosted Forrest!

Fragrance:10/10
-Throw: 8/10

Yankee Candle Review: ALL IS BRIGHT

Picture

My Review for:   Yankee Candle- ALL IS BRIGHT
Size:  22 oz. Large Jar Candle

Yankee Candle Description: A blend of sparkling citrus scents drifting on warm musk.

                                            Fragrance Notes:
                                        Top: Grapefruit, Orange
                                        Mid: Red Currant
                                        Base: Sweet Musk

Warm, Sugar Sprinkled Currant w/ Citrus Notes.

  • I haven't bought many Yankee Candles the last couple of years, but I couldn't pass up their 5/55$ large candle deal. This is the first one I got and it's burning in my living room right now. On cold sniff, you are definitely hit in the face with a strong citrus smell. Mostly, I smell the grapefruit, but I also smell orange/orange peel, possibly mandarin leaf, and at the very base, almost a light floral undertone. I am assuming that is the musk base.

  • Upon burning, It has a lovely soft warm body with notes of sugar and citrus. The main scent is the currant, which is a different scent in itself. Not a lot of candles smell like this. Blended all together, this is an inoffensive, inviting winter fragrance perfect for Netflix binge watching while the snow falls outside your window. It's like a warm fire wrapped in a hug. Lots of holiday candles smell the same, so if you want to try something other than apples and cinnamon, spicy and piney scents, give this candle a try.

  • I give this scent 9/10. I would definitely repurchase. Added Bonus It has excellent throw.. It's throw is a 10/10. Out of the 5 candles I bought, this was my favorite and the most fragrant. My whole living room smells lovely from just this one candle sitting on my coffee table. All is Bright seems like a seasonal scent, as Yankee Candle is phasing it out of their online inventory. Hopefully we will see it again next year. I hope I grabbed an extra jar because not only do I love the smell of this candle, it  also makes a great gift since it's a scent everyone could enjoy.

-Fragrance: 9/10
-Throw: 10/10
-Performance:  10/10
-Overall: A+
(it doesn't get much better than this!)
